How to Wash BAPE Denim (Without Ruining the Color or Graphics)

Short answer: Wash BAPE denim as little as possible. When you do, turn the jeans inside out, close all zippers and buttons, and machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a small amount of mild detergent — or hand wash in cold water. Never use bleach or fabric softener, never wring the fabric, and always air dry flat or hung. Skip the dryer entirely: heat is what fades dye, shrinks denim, and cracks printed or appliquéd graphics. Always check the care tag on your specific pair first, since BAPE denim comes in different washes and finishes.

Step-by-Step: Washing BAPE Denim Safely

  • Spot clean first. For small marks, dab with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent instead of running a full wash. Most denim only needs a true wash every 5–10 wears.
  • Turn inside out. This protects the outer dye, any camo or shark-style graphics, and embroidery from abrasion in the drum.
  • Cold water, gentle cycle. Cold water minimizes indigo bleed and shrinkage. Use a gentle or delicate cycle and a mild detergent — no bleach, no softener, no pods with brighteners if you can avoid them.
  • Wash alone or with like colors. Raw and dark-wash denim can bleed dye onto lighter garments, especially in the first few washes.
  • Air dry only. Reshape the jeans, then hang by the waistband or lay flat away from direct sunlight. Direct sun fades dye almost as fast as a dryer does.

What Ruins BAPE Denim Fastest

  • The dryer. High heat shrinks cotton denim and can crack or peel printed graphics and patches.
  • Hot water and harsh detergent. Both strip indigo dye and dull the wash quickly.
  • Ironing directly on graphics. If you must iron, do it inside out on low heat and keep the iron off any printed areas.
  • Over-washing. Every wash costs a little color. Air the jeans out between wears and spot clean when you can.

If a pair has heavy embellishment, distressing, or leather patches, hand washing or a denim-experienced dry cleaner is the safer call.
